Any of my friends in the SCA that enjoy BPAL, please consider joining the community sca_bpal . A lot of great people on there that I am certain you know from going to events, and they are also fabulous when it comes to looking for certain scents or if you are looking for people to trade with. Usually about once a month it seems people are asking if anyone wants to do a decanting circle of particular scents or they put up everything that is in their trade bin.

So please join because they are such nice people! And then you, too, can be up to date on meet and sniff's that happen at various events.

Who wants to get smelly!!!

Event: BPAL Party
Location: Laura's House
When: Sun, 07/12/09, 11:30AM

Party details:
I will provide a number of scents from Black Phoenix Alchemy Lab, of all varieties.

You will pick any scent you like and try it on.

We will spend the next hour or so picnicking in my backyard, hanging out, and sniffing each other to see how the scents develop.

After they have had a while to dry-down, if you like you can wash off and try another scent, so you get the chance to try more than one.

What else do you need to bring?

I will have all of my scents with me for people to try on. If you want to buy one of the imps from me, you can buy it from me, they are $3.50 a piece. (I'll take a little off since they will have been used once or twice, most likely). I will be providing a chart of all the scents I have with descriptions of the scents in them for everyone. There will be places for you to write your thoughts on them in the bottle and on you, immediately and after an hour. I will also make up a sheet where you can label places on your arm you put the scent and which scent is where. Make sure you have good bare arms for this! I will provide coffee for relieving the poor nostrils in between scents. I also request everyone else that has BPAL to bring theirs along. This makes for a larger pool of scents for others to try on. Bring newbies that are interested!

Also please bring some sort of food item for the picnic.

After the picnic is over, I will have a form going around so that if anyone wants to order anything they can just let me know and I will order a huge mass shipment of scents. I ask for $20 per set of six imps and $15 per large bottle, as long as it is one of the common bottles. Uncommon are more expensive. I will pay shipping and handling and get your scents to you as ASAP as I can.

Please comment with if you will come, if you are bringing a friend, what finger food you would like to bring, and what type of scents you seem to like the most.

I do NOT like the scent Queen of Sheba. First it smells like almonds. THEN it smells LIKE TORTILLAS!! Why would I want to smell like TORTILLAS! Then it adds the subtle hint of fabric softener to the tortilla smell just to make my brain explode.

OMG, my two newest scents? Delicious. I ordered a large of Crowley and a large of Ides of March. Unfortunately you can't get them in any other size. But thankfully they smell amazing on me. I put one on each wrist and I keep getting wafts of them.

Ides of March... it is dreamy. It smells like the lush fields of Ireland. Amazing.

Crowley... smells just..I don't know. But I love it. Dark and murky and delicious.

The other scents I got? I got tons of extras due to what everyone ordered with me. And they threw in an extra. Leipreachan. It smells delightful. I don't think I can give it away. I also can't find it on the site so I am able to figure out what is in it. I think it is just something they throw into every order in March. I likes it!

List of the extra scents I got after giving everyone their's and their extra random imps they wanted

Hades - A dark, palpably sacred chthonic blend: black narcissus and cypress, stephanotis, opoponax, labdanum, onycha and ambergris.

Titus Andronicus - Dark musk and black amber with frankincense, red sandalwood, neroli and bergamot.

Dee - His scent is soft English leather, rosewood and tonka with a hint of incense, parchment and soft woods.

Dana O'Shee - Offerings of milk, honey and sweet grains were made to placate these creatures, and it is that the basis of the scent created in their name.

The Ghost - A thin, sinuous, creeping chill, the scent of glee-filled undeath: white iris, osmanthus, Calla lily, tomb-crawling ivy and a coffin spray of gladiolus, lisianthus and delphinium.

Nero - The pinnacle of power, poisoned by sin and indulgence - this is our homage to Classical Roman debauch. Rosemary, bay, pine and a touch of lemon.

Frumious Bandersnatch - Bandersnatch musk, redolent of spicy carnations, wild plums and chrysanthemum.

Zorya - Spices of the Orient mingle with crystalline musk, midnight flowers and cereus, jasmine, primrose and vesper iris.

Nyarlathotep - Brooding, yet electric: the scent of buried secrets, roiling nightmares, the essence of the Crawling Chaos, the Father of Knives and Locusts, the Hunter in the Dark. This is the blackest of ritual incenses charged with flashes of ozone.

Eros - Myrrh, lilac, and honey wine with crimson tea leaf and sweet resins.

Juke Joint - A bawdy, gleefully wicked and unruly scent: Kentucky Bourbon, sugar and a sprig of mint.

Bayou - A lazy, warm deep green scent with a thick aquatic undertone: Spanish moss, evergreen and cypress with watery blue-green notes and an eddy of hothouse flowers and swamp blooms.

Tanin'iver - Lilith’s monstrous dragon steed: dragon’s blood resin, patchouli, pomegranate, myrrh, mimosa, cassia, blood musk and smoke.

Osun - Osun’s symbols are hand mirrors, brass fans, brass needles, brass bells, sunflowers, and her creatures are the cricket and the peacock. Her ofrenda is thick with honey and herbs of love, passion and desire.

Ephemera - The scent of loss, love and the echo of time without end: sorrowful violet and chamomile with muguet, white geranium, calla lily and tea rose with a hint of autumn leaves.

Maenad - Orgiastic mayhem in the extreme: sweet strawberry and orange blossom distorted by carnation, black poppy and hibiscus.

A Countenance Forboding Evil - Patchouli, ylang ylang, blood orange, and vetiver.

Sadly, I think I will like most all of them. There are only two or three I don't think will smell good on me.

I think my list of BPAL will be a large bottle of Metallic Scarab for Chris and possibly a large bottle of either Jabberwocky or Eve or Ode on Melancholy for me. I usually put on a random scent every day to enjoy.

In other news, I had gotten a set of scents from Sephora for Chris for his birthday. All manly scents. There is nothing better than curling up next to him at the end of the long day, closing my eyes, and losing myself in his presence.

I will be placing and order in to BPAL on the 14th. If there is anything you want either in imps or vials, please post what you want here and I will order it for you. Again, I don't make you pay shipping and handling since I usually keep the few extra imps they throw in for further BPAL parties. So the price would be a flat $20 for six imps. Vials will be the cost of the vial. Just let me know what you want and I will try to collect money whenever I see you next.

I'm thinking of buying a big bottle of Ides of March and portioning it into smaller vials so everyone who is interested can have a small imp. I would need to figure where to buy the bottles and order those, though. If you are interested, check the site. It is a new scent.

The latest BPAL order just came in. That means, Virginia, Heather, and Al: Your stuff will be coming to you as soon as I see you!

Thinking of throwing another BPAL party in February or March.

Liam, you and the Queen available any of these times?

My uncle was here from California this weekend and I didn't get to see him since I was out of town. Luckily, he was here all night last night as well and stopped by for a quick visit. He immediately saw my spinning wheel, asked me if I had carders or could get my hands on some, and how I would feel if he shipped me a few pounds of cotton to play with.

What do you think my answer was?

Yes, I will happily share with anyone that would like some. He said I should expect a box of cotton at some point soon. For all I know, it will be my awesome Christmas present.

Other than that, as the BPAL shipment finally arrived, I finally decided on a date. BPAL party will be on November 23rd. I already have quite a few people saying they would love to come, so I will ask for RSVP in some format so I can figure out how much foodies to have on hand. And I will make it a girl party. I will send Chris off to visit his folks or something.

And we should have our new couches by then. So .... yay!

Hopefully this means we can have the BPAL party. Some of these scents I will be taking, but there will be plenty up for use and enjoyment and purchasing. So here are the list of scents. I will let people know when the party is pretty ASAP.

Queen - For use only by women. An extremely potent passion blend, used to great effect when you're converting feminine sexual energy into power.

Grand Guignol - Our Grand Guignol perfume is a shot of sweet apricot brandy; just enough to settle your nerves after a ghoulish, gory brush with the macabre.

Wolfsbane - This concoction of ours has none of the lethal qualities, but still personifies all of the herb's dark history beautifully.

Hermia - Pink pepper, golden amber, honeysuckle, and passion flower.

The Lady of Shalott - The scent of calm waters just before a raging storm, limned with achingly-beautiful blooms, an icy scent, but somehow warm, and mirror-bright: bold gardenia, crystalline musk, muguet, water blossoms, clear, slightly tart aquatic notes and a crush of white ginger.

Scherezade - Saffron and Middle Eastern spices swirled through sensual red musk.

Wicked - A sophisticated, womanly scent: rich myrrh and jasmine draped in the subtlest rose.

Szepasszony - A chilly, tempestuous whirlwind of clear, airy notes, slashing rain, and a thin undercurrent of white flowers.

The Apothecary - Tea leaf with three mosses, green grass, a medley of herbal notes, and a drop of ginger and fig.

Forbidden Fruit - The fresh scent of lotus hidden behind lightly scented flowers, amber, and citrus.

Jazz Funeral - Bittersweet bay rum, bourbon, and a host of funeral flowers with a touch of graveyard dirt, magnolia and Spanish Moss.

Baneberry - A poisonous fruit-bearing member of the buttercup family. The scent, like the plant, is dark green, herbal, and plump with bulging black fruit.

Obatala - Obatala’s ofrenda is soft, white and pure: milk, coconut meat, shea butter and cool, refreshing water.

Desire - The overwhelming agony of passion crystallized into a singularly dark and magnetic blend: bittersweet neroli, black patchouli and black musk, gilded by apple, bergamot, blood red rose, teak, and vanilla.

Kathmandu - Saffron, blessed sandalwood, Himalayan cedar and the miraculous lotus of the Buddha with chiuri bark and Nepalese spices.

Iago - Malevolent, dark and shadowy: sinuous black musk, wet leather and vetiver.

Mad Hatter - A gentlemen's lavender-citron cologne unhinged by the feral pungence of black musk and a paroxysm of pennyroyal.

Euphrosyne - Gardenia, tea rose, vanilla and jasmine.

Sri Lanka - Indian sandalwood and cedar, and the dry incense smoke of olibanum, gum mastic, patchouli and myrrh.

Night-Gaunt - Their scent of their slick, rubbery hides is bittersweet, ticklish, and skin-creeping: something akin to yuzu, white grapefruit, and kumquat mixed with the snow-dusted flowers of Mount Ngranek.

Tzadikim Nistarim - The scent is one of unadulterated spiritual purity, with a taste of the world's eternal pathos, and the joy of suffering with grace: frankincense, olive, spikenard, hyssop and galangal.

Ochosi - His ofrenda is the soft shea he shares with Obatala, forest herbs, and sprucewood arrow shafts.

Cairo - The essence of holy Kyphi, beloved incense of the Egyptian Gods.

Plunder - The scent of a pirate's bumboat, overflowing with stolen wares: tea leaf, cassia, cinnamon bark, clove, allspice, sandalwood, tobacco, peppercorn, and nutmeg.

Skuld - Ylang ylang, honey, Egyptian and Arabian musks and labdanum.

Shadow Witch Orchid - This perfume is a dusky orchid, subdued and ethereal.

I will also be adding into the pool:

De Sade - The essence of pleasure heightened by pain: the raw scent of leather.

Kitsune-Tsuki - Asian plum, orchid, daffodil, jasmine and white musk.

Should be having the party either on the 22nd after I get off of work or the 23rd. So if people are interested, please sign up. Just let me know.

So far:

De Sade from Sin and Salvation: The essence of pleasure heightened by pain: the raw scent of leather.
In the bottle: Like leather, but a very harsh leather aroma.
On me: I couldn't even bring myself to wear it for longer than ten minutes. The smell was over-whelming and terrible and musty hard to breath. It was a thick heady leather, but not the good kind, mixed with that musty damp towels smell.

Moscow from Wanderlust: A rich, bold blend of imperial rose, carnation, lush jasmine, lily of the valley, dark musk, amber, bergamot and gilded tangerine.
In the bottle: A twist of flowers with a rich heady scent of a spice rack.
On me: It smelled like heavenly incense, thick with the smoke and rich aroma that incense normally has with and underlying floral hint.

Schrodinger's Cat from Bewitching Brews: A paradoxical scent experiment! - tangerine, sugared lime, pink grapefruit, oakmoss, lavender, zdravetz, and chocolate peppermint.
In the bottle: Sweet with a whiff of peppermint as a lingering scent. Very complex and hard to describe.
On me: Delicious. I can't describe it more than that. The peppermint was lost, the chocolate was slightly there, and it was just sweet without being over-bearing, and rather delightful.

Whip from Ars Amatoria: Agony and ecstasy: black leather and damp red rose.
In the bottle: Thick scent of leather with a soft flower smell. Not easily read as rose.
On me: Very soft smell of leather with a wispy rose scent. Soft, sweet, flowery.

Kitsune-Tsuki from Diabolus: Asian plum, orchid, daffodil, jasmine and white musk.
In the bottle: Very fruity and sweet.
On me: Sickeningly sweet. Like very very fake berry flavored overly sugary candy. Not my favorite.

The Robotic Scarab from Steamworks:Polished metallic notes, glossy leather, frankincense, star anise, and thin lubricating oils.
In the bottle: More like cologne than perfume. Almost like aftershave.
On me: Started off with the smell of me having just made out with some heavenly man scent that I easily flipped for. It was wonderful. Then started to carmelize on me and the anise came out more. Really enjoyed the whole scent and all its changes.

Zombi from Ars Morendi: Dried roses, rose leaf, Spanish moss, oakmoss and deep brown earth.
In the bottle: Best described as dirt and dead flowers.
On me: Dirt and dead flowers, but pleasantly so.

Santo Domingo from Wanderlust: An exotic, sultry blend of tobacco leaf, bay rum and heady Caribbean blossoms
In the bottle: You can easily make out the tobacco, but it smells like and up end bar of some sort, where stuffy coated people are drinking expensive whiskeys and such and smoking high quality cigars. Minus the actual smoke. Just the smell of them being in pockets, I guess.
On me: Started off with a thick scent of tobacco leaves but mellowed into a very nice soft scent almost like clove ciggarettes. Unlit, of course. But just that slight tobacco scent mixed with some really nice spices. But very soft. A small hint of rum in there, too.

Akuma from Diabolus: Devilish temptation, as sweet as sin: blood orange, neroli, and raspberry.
In the bottle: Pine mixed with berry.
On me: Freezepops! Om nom nom!

Grog from Bewitching Brews: Arrr! Avast ye, matey! This be the scent of pirate rum!
In the bottle: Caramel
On me: Christmas cookies. Chris liked it so much he om nom nom'd my arm!

Elegba from Excolo: His ofrenda contains coconut, tobacco and sweet, sugared rum.
In the bottle: Very sweet and sugary.
On me: Coconut galore with a hint of caramel.

Iambe from Excolo: Sudanese amber, patchouli, rose, gardenia, gladiola and white tea.
In the bottle: Like citrus and floral.
On me: A soft sweet fruity scenty. I like it since it also has a hint of floral.

The Caterpillar from Mad Tea Party: Heavy incense notes waft lazily through a mix of carnation, jasmine, bergamot, and neroli over a lush bed of dark mosses, iris blossom, deep patchouli and indolent vetiver.
In the bottle: Heady, thick, overly spiced.
On me: Like I just walked into a hippie store. I love it.

Black Forest from Bewitching Brews: Thick, viscous pine with ambergris, black musk, juniper and cypress.
In the bottle: Lemon and pine. A little skeptical.
On me: Soft pine undertones with a thick scent of moss and delicious delicious musk and eucalyptus.

Cheshire Cat from Mad Tea Party: Grapefruit, red currant, dark musk, Roman chamomile, delphinium, and lavender.
In the bottle: Like cheesecake and coconut.
On me: Some kind of happy far off memory of a scent that I can't place but I hope to keep wearing till I figure it out.

Eris: A suitably disjointed scent, bursting with gleeful mayhem: wet fruits and sharp mimosa with Martial spices and a deceptive flash of floral.
In the bottle: Like fruit + vomit.
On me: Weird old lady perfume. Not awful, but not my favorite either.
