The morning was long and difficult. When we woke, we wound my dear rattie, Lawrencium of Arabia, dangling by his left hind leg. He must have tumbled as he was heading down the ramp and it got caught in the hinged edge. I tried so much to get his leg out and finally had to try placing his whole body back onto the ramp. This was, in itself, difficult. The reason being that he was in so much pain that he was biting very hard. So I had to put on a mitt to do it. His leg was freed, though he then fell off the ramp to his bedding and just laid there. He was in so much pain. He could lift his upper body but his lower half stay limp. I was worried he might have snapped something when he fell in the first place.

There was nothing that could be done. He was getting on in years, almost 2 1/2 years old. He had upper body mobility but they couldn't fix him.

The whole thing was heart-wrenching. Especially when I had to bring him in and help him ease into the after-life. I had to wear a glove. It was awful. I stayed strong. I didn't cry. Everyone felt terrible.

Goodbye, Lawrencium. You were a good rat. Lonely, but good. Now you shall have many new playmates across the rainbow bridge.
