From this day forward, this journal is becoming just that. A journal. A personal journal where I type my thoughts, feelings, hopes, dreams, etc.

Due to this change, all entries from here on in are to be completely friend locked. If you would like to join my friends list and learn more about me, please comment here as to who you are, how I know you, etc so I can feel comfortable letting you in to this part of my life.

Thank you so much!

Periods

Did you ever have this moment where, you know, you are expecting your period kind of like you are waiting for the news to come on. Lottery numbers, whose team is winning, what local events are coming up, whatever. And you flip to the channel, like you always do, same bat time, same bat channel, all prepared with whatever it is you use for enjoying the news. 'Oh look! The news is on!' and your vagina is like "THERE'S 50,000 DEAD IN IRAQ!"

Heavy flow days. They are a real thing.

Welcome to my Dreamwidth.

And now for part two of supporting Virginia (and supporting my own depression issues) by following along with her homework.

As described by Virginia, "And now I got part two of my homework. This is where everyone else comes in. You have to tell me what you like about me. ... So yeah. Tell me what it is you particularly like about me."

So there you go, people. That is the assignment. I'm going to screen all comments so no one has to worry about 'oh, I don't want to do that but so many others are' and also will turn on anonymous so if you don't want me to know who said the things and just to know that they are felt, then it will be so.

As far as all the horribleness that seems to continue in the world happens, all I can do is quote Dr. Seuss.

"But now," says the Once-ler,
"Now that -you're- here,
the word of the Lorax seems perfectly clear.
UNLESS someone like you
cares a whole awful lot,
nothing is going to get better.
It's not."

This could easily be read for not just what the Lorax is about, but honestly... almost every and any issue in the world today. Many of the older generation may regret the decisions they have made to get the world where it is now, everything from teaching their children racism to starting a logging company that would make toothpicks.

It is now on us. Us and our children. We need to care enough to change things and make this place a better world to live in. For everyone. No being selfish. That's how the Once-ler was. He kept biggering and biggering and biggering until he destroyed the Truffula trees and made the Swomee-swans move away because of air pollution, the Humming fish leave from the schlopp in their water, and the Bar-ba-loots migrate to find food for the crummies in their tummies. All because he wanted more money.

So, think about that message that was written by a very wise man many years ago. Start doing good. Teach your children to do good. Together, hopefully, we can take that seed of the last Truffula tree and bring the Lorax and his friends back to life.

I entered Johann into a contest with Gerber that, if he wins fully, he could win $25,000 which would be an amazing start to his college fund.

You can vote daily (I'm going to try and remember to) but I do ask friends that you at least vote. It doesn't -have- to be for Johann. But helping a child with their education, especially when a lot of people lately can not now nor will they be able later to afford such a thing, I find to be very important. So vote once, vote daily, it doesn't matter.

If you want to, you could also post this link to your own page in hopes of helping Johann's chances, or someone else's.

Thank you all for at least reading this far. And thank you to any who might vote for him.

Oh friends of Dione Sidhe (and you all know who you are):

We are having a game day at my house! It is either pot luck or ordering out for pizza or whatever. It will depend on what people bring. We have set ups for at least three groups of games to be going on as well as Rockband or movies in the family room.

If you would like to come, start time is around 2pm today! We have a small group who we know are coming so far from Dione Sidhe: Kathy, John, Brian, Millie, Phaedra, and Elizabeth for at least a short amount of time.

So please please feel free to come on over and partake in gaming joy and happiness!

Signed,
The owner of the institution

Bachelorette cake:

Chocolate butter cake with a goat's milk creme fraiche and raspberry filling topped with contreau mousseline butter cream and decorated with chocolate ganache. It was definitely one of the big hits of the party.

Yes, I even do bachelorette parties. I can bake for any occasion! To hire me, just email me with what you want.

Good news! I might not have to miss the wedding after all! Sounds like the exams usually start at 9am and last until 12. Wish me luck that this ends up being the case!

Spinny is at my house tonight. I'm trying to get people who don't usually come but are interested to come. It will be nice and relaxing, I hope. Hopefully Johann feels better by then.

Trying to decide on a type of class to teach. Any and all criticism would be helpful.

I am looking for old decks of playing cards that are missing a few for a full deck. I have a craft project I'm planning on doing with them. The more the merrier. If you have any and can get them to me by the end of the month/beginning of next month, that would be FABULOUS!

Awesome things as of lately:

Vacation in Nahant, MA enjoying the beach.
Vacation in Washington County enjoying the cheese tour.
Making a feast that seemed to go over very well.
Making challah bread for the first time.
Making linzer tart cookies for the first time.

Awesome things to come:

A known about bachelorette party.
Garlic festival.
Civil service exam sharing a date with Winter Nights (means no hard core performing, but I still hope to have one or two things really well prepped).
Knitting crazy amounts of gifts that I'm very excited about!
An upcoming wedding.
Halloween!

Things I could really use from my friends:

Anyone have a recipe that uses creme fraiche? I have about 4oz of goat's milk creme fraiche I would like to use up soon.

Anyone want to come over to make cannoli's with me this week? The more people, the easier it is. Honest. Have some nice cow's milk cheese (Quark) that I plan to use for the innards.

Last night: Linzer cookies with a fall theme and black raspberry or apricot jam filling

The first five people to respond to this post will get something made or purchased by me with you in mind! My choice. For you.

This offer does have some restrictions and limitations:

I make no guarantees that you will like what I find/make!

What I create/buy will be just for you.

It'll be done this calendar year.

You have no clue what it's going to be. It may be a story. It may be poetry. I may draw or paint something. I may bake you something and mail it to you. Who knows? Not you, that's for sure! However, I *do* promise that it will be a surprise and exciting and awesome!

I reserve the right to do something extremely strange.

The catch: You have to put this in your journal as well. We all can make stuff! No quid-pro-quo, no gift.

Update: I have Virginia, Emily, and Katie signed up. I still have two more spots! And the sad thing is, looking at the things I started, I totally have things started for all three of these people! So... Yes, Virginia, Katie, and Emily. They are on their way, I swear. I didn't forget about this.

Anyone want to sign up for the last two spots?

I need to find my old post of making/giving gifts to the first six people that posted. I need to remember who they were because I have partial gifts sitting around and if I could remember who I was making them for, things would be a lot easier.

I will keep this screened. Post anonymously, as always.

It is the middle of September. The year is slowly winding to a close, and I know I have been feeling the weight of that.

What were your resolutions for this year of 2010? And... have you kept them?

Tonight: I totally forgot I was having a baking get together tonight. We are going to make linzer torte. Oh, but to make the pie or the cookies, I just don't know.

Goals: Finish my practice shipwreck shawl. Spin some new yarn up. Possibly try and card the cotton so I can spin that. I have plans for that cotton! Have a few new knitting projects I want to do.

Anniversary: It was amazing. Chris surprised me by taking me out to Washington County. We stayed at the Bunker Hill B&B and did two full days of the cheese tour. We wanted to take it slow, so we did three farms on one day as well as pick your own raspberries (we picked 4lbs) and a little garage sale-ing. We also went to Harvest Fest and enjoyed an amazing home grown dinner. On Sunday we finished up the last two farms and then popped into Slyboro for cider tasting and purchasing as well Locust Grove Smokehouse for some delicious meats. We came home with, about, 15-20 different cheeses, a leg of goat, a huge chunk of fresh corned beef, and then some smoked things from the smoke house.

My biggest find during the weekend was at harvet fest. They had a large silent auction going on. At first glance, nothing tickled my fancy. But the second time through, I saw that Battenkill Kitchen was giving away a basket that, inside, boasted a ticket to the very small class/lecture given by Rose Levy Beranbaum that also included a signed copy of her book. Yeah, I bid on that basket. And I won. But the class is sadly when Winter Night's is, so I am gave the ticket to my mother to thank her for baby sitting over the weekend.

Overall, it was amazing. I got a lot of progress done on my knitting and had a splendid time.
